The project aims for the industrial implementation of environmentally friendly panels that are based on renewable polymers or recyclable thermoplastic sheets and natural fibres. These panels can be used for e. g. ceilings, fairings, compartments in the interior of aircrafts, trains, busses, ships etc. They substitute hazardous materials used in common panels (e. g. phenolic resins) and have a light weight character which helps saving fuel by reducing the mass of the vehicles. The technology and processes developed in project will result in a significantly increased production rate according to industrial requirements. This is considered as a major leap forward towards a marked introduction and is achieved through the employment of, e.g., preimpregnated natural fibres (pre-preg). This technology and the processes necessary to manufacture and handle it form the basis for competitive production of eco-friendly composite panels and structures. The consortium aims for a market introduction in the business sectors aeronautical, rail, road and ship transport.
This project is co-funded by the European Union within the CIP Eco-Innovation initiative of the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme, CIP.
